Elbit Systems Showcases SkyStriker Loitering Munition in Europe

Elbit Systems Germany and Diehl Defence have successfully demonstrated the SkyStriker loitering munition, also known as "Sharkrak" in Hebrew, during a live event in Europe. The demonstration, held in early September, showcased the system's capabilities including launch from a container, reconnaissance, target tracking, and simulated attack.

The SkyStriker, an electrically powered loitering munition designed for long-range precision strikes, can operate at ranges exceeding 200 kilometers and stay airborne for over two hours. Its electric propulsion contributes to a low acoustic and thermal signature, making it harder to detect. The system is already in operational use in several countries and features video reconnaissance, autonomous target tracking, and precise strike capabilities.

During the demonstration, the SkyStriker exhibited its ability to transfer control up to 80 kilometers away and demonstrated autonomous detection, tracking, and attack functions. It was also integrated with the SkyLark 1 eVTOL reconnaissance drone to highlight its potential as part of a broader intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) network for combined detection and attack missions.

The demonstration follows a strategic cooperation agreement signed between Diehl Defence and Elbit Systems in June at the ILA exhibition in Berlin. The companies are jointly promoting the SkyStriker in the European market and are exploring the possibility of establishing local production capabilities in Germany, contingent on winning relevant programs. Both companies expressed optimism about the system's technological maturity and its suitability for modern military requirements, viewing the demonstration as a significant step towards expanding the SkyStriker's presence in Europe and potential future production in Germany.
