Former Minister Meridor Open to Religious Zionist Party Joining Unity Government

Former Minister Shaul Meridor of the Yisrael! party stated that his party would not rule out the possibility of the Religious Zionist Party joining a future government led by Gadi Eisenkot, provided they adhere to Yisrael!'s core principles. In an interview with 103fm, Meridor explained that Yisrael! is not focused on disqualifying potential partners but rather on inviting any "Zionist-state" party that meets their criteria. "If Smotrich stands by Yisrael!'s core principles, welcome," Meridor said, adding that the decision rests with Smotrich and that his party would be "more than happy to host him" if he were to "repent."

Meridor also addressed concerns about small parties failing to pass the electoral threshold, asserting that Yisrael! is the best party to lead, boasting former ministers, Knesset members, and successful public figures. He cautioned voters against supporting parties that might not pass the threshold, as their votes could inadvertently benefit the opposing side. Meridor also categorized any party willing to allow the Prime Minister who led Israel to the October 7th attacks to continue in office as part of the "Netanyahu bloc."

Discussing the current transitional government, Meridor emphasized that its role is to maintain Israel's security and prepare for elections within legal bounds. He criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu's attempt to open the state budget, calling it a "political spin" designed to obligate the next government to his agenda and potentially funnel funds to associates before an anticipated election loss. Meridor urged Netanyahu to redirect necessary funds to the defense system, which he noted has been pleading for resources for over a year, citing the Chief of Staff's warnings about severe shortages.
