Israel Launches New Tool to Help Consumers Save on Home Gas Costs

The Israeli Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has launched an upgraded home gas calculator designed to help consumers identify potential savings by switching to the cheapest provider in their area. The tool, available on the ministry's website, also includes new guides to assist households in the process of changing their gas supplier.

This initiative is part of a broader campaign by the ministry to increase competition within the home gas sector, aiming to drive down prices. Ministry checks revealed significant price disparities among suppliers, which can amount to hundreds or even thousands of shekels annually for consumers.

Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen stated that the upgraded calculator is a component of the ministry's plan to remove barriers and implement reforms in the gas market. He emphasized that the measures will enhance transparency and simplify the switching process between suppliers, ultimately benefiting consumers through increased competition and lower prices.

The upgrade is part of a program initiated in April aimed at boosting transparency and competition in the home gas market. The ministry expects this to lead to price reductions by enabling the public to compare costs more effectively. Further steps include removing obstacles to make switching suppliers easier and faster, and the publication of a monthly index detailing price differences between companies.
