Israeli Education Minister Warns Right-Wing Voters Against Wasted Votes

Israeli Education Minister Yoav Kisch has issued a stark warning to right-wing voters, urging them to cast their ballots only for parties that are likely to pass the electoral threshold, known as the "blocking percentage." Kisch expressed concern that votes for smaller parties, such as those potentially supporting Ofer Winter, could be wasted and inadvertently benefit the political left.

Speaking on the radio station 103FM, Kisch specifically mentioned the potential impact of Ofer Winter, a former IDF paratrooper commander, on the upcoming elections. He drew a parallel to the 2022 elections, where he suggested that Merav Michaeli, leader of the Labor party, benefited from a similar dynamic. Kisch emphasized that his concern is not about the individuals within these parties but about the practical outcome of votes being lost due to parties failing to meet the required percentage to enter the Knesset.

Kisch also strongly condemned the film "Nez'a" (Accidental Damage), calling it a campaign against the State of Israel. He indicated that the IDF Chief of Staff is investigating the film, which he believes contains problematic statements from within Israel. Kisch lamented that the filmmakers did not incorporate footage from the IDF's own "horror film" archives, which he noted were not used due to the need for family consent and legal considerations.

Despite concerns about potential vote dilution, Kisch stated his belief that the public sentiment strongly favors the right. He acknowledged that polls might be designed to discourage voters from turning out and urged supporters to go to the polls to ensure their voices are heard and to influence the election outcome. He concluded by reflecting on his tenure as Education Minister during the "hardest war" Israel has faced, praising the resilience of students, teachers, and parents who navigated the challenges of displaced populations and the economic impact of the conflict, highlighting the education system's role as a "protective shield" for the home front.
