Croatian Defender Dario Zuparić Threatens Contract Cancellation Over War Concerns

Dario Zuparić, a key defender for Hapoel Haifa, has stated he would cancel his contract if the security situation in Israel deteriorates due to renewed conflict. The 34-year-old Croatian player, who has become a cornerstone for the team, shared his perspective on life in Israel in an interview with his homeland's media.

Zuparić recounted that the previous war broke out shortly after his arrival and lasted about a month, but daily life continued largely unaffected. He noted that despite media reports of destruction, he observed Arabs and Jews living together peacefully and found the conflict illogical. He admitted his mother expressed concern for his safety, urging him to return home.

He acknowledged that while there were initial air raid sirens, he quickly realized the immediate danger was minimal and life proceeded normally. Zuparić expressed hope for continued peace, stating that without the stress of war, life in Israel is beautiful, with beaches full of people. However, he reiterated his stance that if the situation escalates again, he will terminate his contract, though he described his experience in Israel so far as excellent.

Initially skeptical about moving to Israel, Zuparić called it the hardest decision of his life but ultimately found it to be a perfect fit, praising Hapoel Haifa and the fans. He described Israeli football fans as passionate, similar to those in Croatia and Southern Italy, and noted the high quality of stadiums and investment in sports.

Looking ahead, Zuparić analyzed the upcoming match between Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Dinamo Zagreb. He believes Dinamo has a significant advantage, being a level above Be'er Sheva. He observed that Be'er Sheva prefers possession-based play from the defense, a tactic Hapoel Haifa exploited by pressing high. Zuparić suggested Dinamo could create problems by applying consistent high pressure, as Be'er Sheva lacks a Plan B for dealing with such tactics and tends to stick to their organized build-up play even under pressure.
