NBA Star Kyle Kuzma Defends Israel, Criticizes Hamas and Antisemitism

NBA player Kyle Kuzma of the Milwaukee Bucks issued a strong statement against Hamas and Iranian-backed terrorism following a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Mexico City. Observing "Free Palestine" signs at the event, Kuzma urged those advocating for Palestinian freedom to also demand freedom from Hamas, Iranian terror, and leaders who use civilians as human shields, emphasizing that compassion should not be selective.

Kuzma's remarks came amid significant controversy in Mexico after the demonstration featured antisemitic chants, including "Jews out of Mexico," which were condemned by local Jewish community organizations. This is not the first time the non-Jewish player has publicly supported Israel. He previously expressed solidarity with Israel after the October 7, 2023 attacks and has a close friendship with Israeli player Deni Avdija, having played with him on the Washington Wizards and attended a Jewish wedding with him.

Kuzma also recently criticized New York City Mayor Eric Adams for his stance on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Adams had posted a viral video expressing his intent to arrest Netanyahu if he visited New York, citing an International Criminal Court arrest warrant. While Adams acknowledged he lacked direct authority, his comments drew sharp criticism from Jewish community leaders concerned about inciting unrest.

Kuzma directly attacked Adams' actions, labeling them as performative social media behavior. He shared Adams' video, criticizing individuals who make gestures for roles they lack the authority, talent, or experience to fill, solely for digital content creation. Kuzma argued this reflects a broader trend where slogans and short videos replace genuine action and long-term work, sparking debate online between supporters praising his statements and critics advising him to avoid complex political issues.
