Davida's Bitter Return: From Hapoel Tel Aviv Hope to Maccabi Rival

The complex relationship between soccer player Oscar Davida and his former club, Hapoel Tel Aviv, has reached a new low, with Davida now a prominent figure in taunting the club's fans. Davida, who rose through Hapoel's youth academy and was once seen as a potential star for the team, has become a target of criticism from his boyhood club's supporters.

Davida's journey began with a brief stint at Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth system before joining Hapoel's academy. During his time with Hapoel's senior team, he was deeply identified with the club, even seen singing chants against Maccabi Tel Aviv. A memorable moment was when he urged his Hapoel teammates to leave the field after a disallowed equalizer in a cup final.

After being sold to Standard Liège, Davida's return to Israel saw a move to Maccabi Tel Aviv become inevitable due to Hapoel's financial situation at the time. Upon joining Maccabi, Davida reportedly removed all traces of his Hapoel affiliation from his Instagram. Sources close to Davida, including his wife, claim this was a response to severe online abuse, including death threats, directed at them since his transfer to Maccabi.

However, Davida has also engaged in taunting Hapoel. Most recently, after Hapoel Tel Aviv was relegated, Davida was filmed celebrating Maccabi's victory by mocking Hapoel's demotion. A viral video also showed him singing a derogatory chant about Hapoel at his own wedding. On the field, he was sent off last year after kicking Doron Leidner, a former youth teammate.

Former player Gili Vermut, who made a similar transfer, expressed disapproval of Davida's taunting behavior. Despite public statements suggesting his celebrations were not intended as provocation, Davida reportedly confided in friends that his actions were partly a response to the abuse he received, finding satisfaction in retaliating in his own way.
