The picture in World Cup 2026 groups A and B is becoming clearer after two rounds, with only one matchday left to determine which teams advance to the round of 32 and from which positions.
In Group A, Mexico booked its place in the round of 32 after a narrow 1-0 win over South Korea, giving it a perfect record of two victories and six points. Mexico will face Czech Republic in the final group match, a game that could also send the Czechs through if they win. South Korea can qualify with a draw against South Africa. As things stand, group leaders Mexico would meet Spain, currently third in Group H, though that opponent could still change. Other possible Mexican opponents are Uruguay or Saudi Arabia.
In Group B, Canada’s 6-0 demolition of Qatar lifted it, at least temporarily, to first place, ahead of Switzerland on goal difference. Switzerland had also taken a 4-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina. Canada and Switzerland are both all but assured of reaching the round of 32 with four points each.
They will meet in the final round for first place in the group, while Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar will compete for third. Right now, Canada would cross over to Belgium, third in Group G, while Switzerland could draw South Korea, currently second in Group A.
