Infrastructure Work During Rosh Hashanah Sparks Outrage, Draws Limited Response

Infrastructure work conducted in a Haredi neighborhood in Kiryat Gat during the Rosh Hashanah holiday has ignited public controversy. Heavy machinery was documented operating in the western Kiryat Gat Haredi neighborhood on the second day of the holiday, drawing widespread criticism.

In response to the reports, the Ministry of Construction and Housing contacted "Arim" company, which is responsible for development work and contractor agreements in the area. The ministry clarified that it does not authorize work on Shabbat or holidays and that clear directives regarding this were provided to "Arim" as part of the tender process.

The ministry stated it is investigating how the work occurred and demanded that "Arim" examine the incident and take necessary actions based on the findings. They assured that the matter would be addressed and the directives enforced.

Amidst the ministry's response, the silence from Haredi Knesset members has been particularly notable, especially during an election period. While such an event, involving construction in a Haredi neighborhood during a major Jewish holiday, would typically elicit strong reactions and demands for accountability from political Haredi representatives, most have remained silent.

The only Haredi lawmaker to publicly comment was MK Michael Malchieli of Shas, who described the situation as "very serious and regrettable." He urged all relevant parties to act immediately and decisively to prevent future desecrations of the holiday.
