MK Trooper Urges Voting Rights for Families of Wounded Soldiers

Member of Knesset Chili Tropper has formally requested that the Central Elections Committee consider allowing the families of wounded Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers, particularly those in hospitals, to vote at polling stations located within the medical facilities. Tropper's appeal, directed to Acting Director General of the Central Elections Committee Dean Livneh, stems from conversations with several families during visits to rehabilitation wards.

Currently, hospitalized soldiers are permitted to vote at hospital polling stations. However, their accompanying family members are required to travel to their registered place of residence to cast their ballots. Tropper highlighted that many families stay with wounded soldiers for extended periods, often far from home, and that leaving a critically injured soldier's side on election day may not be feasible for some.

"It is our duty to allow their families to continue to stand by their side," Tropper stated, emphasizing that these families should not have to forgo their right to influence the nation's future. He acknowledged the legal and practical complexities of implementing such a change but argued that the unique circumstances warrant exploring a solution.

Tropper also suggested that a similar arrangement be considered for families of other patients requiring close accompaniment, recognizing the potential challenges involved in adapting voting procedures. The request underscores the commitment to supporting families who are dedicated to caring for wounded soldiers during critical times.
