Israel's Antitrust Authority Fines Coca-Cola Israel Again
Israel's Antitrust Authority announced on Monday, September 14, its intention to impose another fine of approximately 1.5 million shekels on the Central Bottling Company, known as Coca-Cola Israel. This new penalty is separate from a recent 17.7 million shekel fine the company paid.
The additional fine is for "separate violations of the Law for the Encouragement of Competition in the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries (Food Law), related to recommendations to retail chains regarding consumer prices for the company's soft drink products," according to the authority's notice. The previously paid fine of 17.7 million shekels was levied for various reasons, including interference with product placement for its own goods and those of competitors at retailers, influencing consumer prices for dairy products from its subsidiary Tara, and making payments to retailers not structured as per-unit discounts.
