Yair Golan Slams Sara Netanyahu's 'Abhorrent Lie' About October 7
Yair Golan, chairman of the "Democrats" party, has strongly criticized remarks made by Sara Netanyahu, wife of the Prime Minister, regarding the failures leading up to the October 7th Hamas attacks. In an interview with Reshet Bet radio, Golan called Netanyahu's assertion that the "failure" was not the Prime Minister's responsibility but stemmed from "betrayal from within" an "abhorrent lie." He stated that this falsehood insults everyone who saved lives on October 7th, regardless of their political leaning, while the government responsible for the failures distances itself from accountability.
Golan recently filed a NIS 2.5 million defamation lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu. The lawsuit stems from an interview she gave to Channel 14, where she implied that Golan had prior knowledge of the October 7th massacre. The lawsuit claims Netanyahu's statements could incite violence against Golan or legitimize such actions in the eyes of her supporters. It further alleges that Netanyahu's insinuation of Golan's foreknowledge and potential complicity in the attack, amounting to "betrayal of the country," has directly endangered his life due to increased threats.
Prior to filing the lawsuit, Golan's lawyers sent a warning letter to Netanyahu. In response to Golan's accusation that she "echoed conspiracy theories and slanderous and false nonsense," Netanyahu called his claims "wild lies." She demanded a public apology, clarification, and remorse from Golan for allegedly distorting her words. Additionally, Netanyahu demanded Golan remove publications and pay her NIS 100,000 in compensation within 48 hours concerning the Eli pre-military academy, threatening a NIS 1 million lawsuit if he failed to comply.
