Man Indicted for Poisoning Baby Formula in Supermarket
An indictment has been filed against Yan Shamla for allegedly poisoning baby formula cans with crushed pills and returning them to supermarket shelves. The charges include assaulting a minor or helpless person, attempted use of dangerous poison, and theft.
The prosecution alleges that Shamla crushed approximately 17 pills and inserted them into each can of formula before placing them back on the shelf. The victims were infants and toddlers, the youngest being only eight months old, who were harmed by the contaminated food.
"These are infants and toddlers, the youngest of whom is only eight months old, who were harmed by food intended for them," stated attorney Moria Baina Weissman from the Jerusalem District Prosecutor's Office.
The incident occurred when Shamla entered a supermarket and placed the poisoned formula cans back on the shelf.
