Pop Star Pink Defends Jewish Identity Amidst Online Backlash

International pop star Pink, whose real name is Alicia Moore, faced significant online criticism after sharing a post from StopAntisemitism. The post targeted rapper Macklemore for a pro-Palestinian speech he gave at an Ed Sheeran concert. Although Pink only shared the post without adding her own commentary, many followers interpreted it as a strong pro-Israel stance, leading to a harsh virtual backlash.

Responding to the criticism on Saturday, Pink broke her silence with a lengthy statement. She explained that while she shared the post, the words were not her own and she wouldn't have chosen them. She admitted to initially responding with sarcastic memes but felt compelled to clarify her position.

"I was born Jewish. I did not choose it, and I have never been ashamed of it," Pink wrote. She expressed frustration that people were making assumptions about her beliefs based solely on her sharing the post and mentioning her Jewish heritage. "So let me complete it myself."

Pink reiterated her stance since the start of the war, stating, "Of course I am not speaking for Israel or for any government. I have never done so. What I said in October 2023 is exactly what I still believe, Hamas is a terrorist organization." She added that "Palestinians deserve a future that respects their humanity and aspirations," emphasizing that protecting innocent lives is paramount.

She concluded by stating she would not debate complex warfare in an Instagram caption or recite slogans to regain followers. Israeli actress Gal Gadot responded to Pink's post in support, writing, "I feel you so much. You are not alone. A good year full of love and light."
