US Embassy Announces Israeli-Lebanese Meeting in Washington Next Week

The U.S. Embassy in Beirut announced that the ambassadors of Lebanon and Israel will meet in Washington next week to discuss the implementation of the "tripartite framework." The embassy stated that the next round of official Lebanese-Israeli talks will be held in Rome in October, approximately one month from now.

These U.S. statements follow Lebanese President Joseph Aoun's confirmation on Saturday that there are no new negotiations with Israel currently. Aoun made these remarks during a visit to Nabatieh, which has been subjected to intense Israeli shelling. Lebanese media reported that at least 29 Lebanese individuals have been killed in less than a week of continuous Israeli raids, including 12 members of a single family.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported on Sunday evening that Israeli warplanes conducted a raid on the area between the towns of Mifsafah and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah. The agency also noted intermittent Israeli artillery shelling on Harash Ali Al-Taher on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa.

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Michelle Sison, justified the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon by claiming Hezbollah's failure to adhere to the ceasefire and surrender its weapons. Hezbollah, on September 5, condemned the continued Israeli aggression, escalating killings, shelling, and destruction of homes and villages. The group held the Lebanese authority responsible for continuing what it described as an "unproductive" negotiation process.

On Friday, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that the town of Mansouri was subjected to over 30 explosions from Friday night into Saturday, targeting infrastructure and homes, some of which were completely destroyed. The agency stated that Israeli forces "detonated the largest part" of the official school in Mansouri, in the Tyre district, leaving only a small section remaining.

Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon continue despite a "framework agreement" signed by Beirut and Tel Aviv on June 26, which stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army. Israel has occupied areas in southern Lebanon since the war between 2023 and 2024, expanding its presence within Lebanese territory during its current aggression.
