US Embassy Says Israel-Lebanon Talks Extended by One Day
The Israeli Embassy in the United States said the round of talks between Israel and Lebanon in Washington will continue today after being extended by one additional day. The main issue still unresolved is the timing of the Israel Defense Forces withdrawal from the area.
The report also says Saudi Arabia is making early preparations to resume oil exports for the first time since the war with Iran broke out on February 28.
Separately, a Wall Street Journal investigation, citing informed sources, says the United States is reconsidering its Middle East strategy after the war and the damage caused to American bases in the region. According to senior officials, Washington plans to scale back its naval base in Bahrain, reduce troop levels in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and shift additional bases westward to keep them out of range of Iranian missiles.
One preferred destination for relocating some of those bases is Israel, according to a senior American official familiar with the details. The article notes that multiple reporters contributed to the report as Israel marks day 993 of the war.
