MK Merav Cohen, who has been campaigning against the phenomenon of child marriage, alerted police earlier this week that an underage wedding was expected to take place in a closed community in northern Israel. Despite the advance warning, the event went ahead as planned.

Channel 13’s Main Edition aired footage on Thursday evening from the ceremony, which took place on Wednesday morning. The wedding celebration continued in the evening and drew hundreds of guests.

Channel 13 crews remained outside the venue for many hours, but police did not arrive. According to the report, the event proceeded without interruption.
