Maccabi Haifa's Record Signing, "Bruninho," Exceeds Expectations

Maccabi Haifa's summer acquisition of Brazilian midfielder Bruninho from Karpaty Lviv for 1.7 million euros is proving to be a significant success, with club officials believing they have found a "bingo" signing. Bruninho has quickly become the team's standout player, contributing three goals and an assist in his first three league matches. He single-handedly secured a win in the opening game and played a crucial role in the second.

The transfer saga for Bruninho was complex, initially falling through in January. At that time, personal terms were agreed upon, but Maccabi Haifa could not reach a transfer fee agreement with Karpaty Lviv and Atletico Mineiro, who held a percentage of future sales. A move to Ukrainian club Metalist Kharkiv was reportedly agreed upon, with Bruninho even undergoing medical tests. However, his wife vetoed the transfer due to the security situation in Ukraine, leading him to finish the season in Lviv.

Throughout this period, Maccabi Haifa maintained contact with the player. Head coach Barak Bakhar was reportedly insistent on acquiring Bruninho, recognizing a need for a playmaker who could take charge of the game, threaten the goal from distance, and control play, a role left vacant since the departure of Charon Sherry and a subsequent unsuccessful attempt to fill it with Mavis Dasa.

Following the collapse of the Kharkiv deal, negotiations with Bruninho resumed. He consistently expressed a desire to join Maccabi Haifa, and the deal was eventually finalized for 1.6 million euros in transfer fees and a 400,000 euro annual salary, making him one of the club's highest earners. He has reportedly integrated well both professionally and socially, with some in Israeli football already deeming him the league's best player. The club hopes he will lead them to domestic and international success, similar to Charon Sherry's legacy.
