Chinese Automakers Flood Israel With Premium EVs at Accessible Prices
China's vehicle exports have surged to unprecedented levels, with 7.3 million cars exported between January and August, surpassing total exports for the entirety of 2025 and averaging 30,000 vehicles daily. This export boom is driven by factors including impending stricter Euro 7 regulations in Europe and a significant downturn in China's domestic car market, necessitating export as a crucial outlet.
While Chinese brands have already gained traction in Israel with more affordable models, the next wave of exports will heavily feature premium and upgraded vehicles. These new models aim to challenge established Western luxury brands by offering comparable or superior features and performance at significantly lower price points, appealing to a broader segment of Israeli consumers.
Notable arrivals include the Zeekr GT7, an electric sport-wagon from Geely's premium brand, which offers impressive acceleration and a range of up to 519 km, with its base model priced around 192,000 shekels, comparable to a basic Japanese or Korean crossover. Even a high-performance version with 646 horsepower is expected to cost under 270,000 shekels.
Xiaomi is also preparing to enter the European and Israeli markets with its YU7 electric crossover, potentially launching in Israel by the second quarter of 2027. With a design reminiscent of Ferrari and a range exceeding 700 km, it is expected to be aggressively priced, possibly starting around 40,000 euros in Germany, targeting Tesla's premium customer base.
BYD is set to introduce its premium Bao 5 off-road SUV in Israel by November 2026. This rugged yet sophisticated vehicle boasts advanced plug-in hybrid technology, a combined output of approximately 570 horsepower, and a total range of over 780 km. Its estimated price in Israel could be around 250,000 shekels, positioning it against status-symbol off-road vehicles.
Additionally, the Land Rover-badged, Chery-produced Freelander 8 is slated for the latter half of 2027. This large premium crossover features advanced plug-in hybrid technology with a combined 818 horsepower and an electric range exceeding 200 km. While its pricing in China starts around $46,000, its Israeli import details are yet to be confirmed.
