Israeli Restaurant Earns First Michelin Star in Miami
A kosher restaurant in North Miami, Florida, has achieved a significant culinary milestone by receiving its first Michelin star. The restaurant, named ShMiami, is the first kosher establishment globally to be recognized with this prestigious award. The star was awarded as part of the inaugural Michelin Guide for Miami, Miami Beach, and the Palm Beaches.
ShMiami, which opened its doors in January 2023, is the brainchild of Israeli chef Eyal Shani. The restaurant's menu draws inspiration from Israeli cuisine, particularly flavors and dishes found in Tel Aviv's Mahane Yehuda market. Shani is known for his distinctive culinary style, often featuring fresh ingredients and bold flavors.
The Michelin Guide's decision to award a star to a kosher restaurant highlights the growing diversity and quality of culinary offerings in Miami. The guide's inspectors evaluate restaurants based on five criteria: quality of the ingredients, mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in the cuisine, value for money, and consistency between visits.
Eyal Shani, who also owns the popular HaSalon restaurant in Miami, expressed his excitement about the award, stating, "It's a dream come true. This star is for Israel, for the Israeli cuisine, and for all the people who love food."
The recognition of ShMiami is expected to draw more attention to kosher dining and Israeli culinary influences in the United States.
