Motorcyclist Injures Police Officer During Escape Attempt in Netivot

A 23-year-old motorcyclist in Netivot allegedly injured a police officer and attempted to flee after a road confrontation. The incident began when the motorcyclist performed a dangerous overtake, nearly colliding with another car. Following this, he pursued the car to the driver's sister's home. The driver's sister, who is a police officer, emerged to de-escalate the situation. After identifying herself and instructing the motorcyclist to turn off his engine, he refused. When she informed him he was under arrest and she would call for backup, the motorcyclist allegedly accelerated his engine, kicked the officer, and sped away, hitting her with the motorcycle.

The injured officer was evacuated by Magen David Adom to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva, where she was hospitalized and underwent surgery. During a court hearing, the motorcyclist's defense attorney questioned the officer's actions, suggesting she may have been in uniform and acted aggressively. The investigator clarified she was not in uniform but was attempting to mediate. The court extended the motorcyclist's arrest by four days, citing reasonable suspicion for dangerous driving and a risk of disrupting the investigation. He faces charges including reckless and life-endangering driving, assaulting the officer, threatening others, and assaulting officers during his arrest.
