Ex-Soccer Player Recounts Isolation at Maccabi Haifa

Former Israeli Premier League midfielder Avihai Yadin has spoken out about a difficult period in his career at Maccabi Haifa, describing how fellow players feared associating with him.

Yadin, once considered a top midfielder in Israel's top soccer league, detailed his experience in a social media post ahead of the new year. He stated that during his time with Maccabi Haifa, he felt ostracized by teammates who were afraid of being seen with him by the coach or management. "They were afraid the coach would see them talking to me, afraid the management would see them next to me, afraid someone would think they were 'on my side'," Yadin wrote.

He expressed disappointment that no one within the team system intervened to help resolve the situation. "I didn't expect anyone to save me, but I looked, I saw, and I learned," he reflected. "Because precisely when you are on the outside, you get a rare opportunity to see people without their masks."

Yadin emphasized that true leadership and friendship are tested during difficult times, not just during moments of success or on the field. He stated that while status, name, and career can be built, integrity is revealed when there is a personal cost to one's choices.

He concluded by mentioning that he later found himself in a similar situation but on the other side, hinting that he will share his actions from that experience soon. "Because in the end, at the moment of truth, your actions tell exactly who you are. Be good," he urged.
