Israel Destroys Hezbollah Tunnel Network After Netanyahu Visit

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited northern Israel two days before the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) detonated the Hezbollah tunnel network in the Ali Taher ridge. During the visit, Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant surveyed tons of weaponry seized by Israeli forces from the underground infrastructure. The network, built with Iranian backing over 15 years, served as a forward stronghold for Hezbollah, intended for raids into the Galilee and defense of the Nabatieh area.

The exhibition presented to the leaders included dozens of rockets, missiles, Iranian-made drones, anti-tank missiles, machine guns, hundreds of mines, and other military equipment. The tunnel system comprised eight routes totaling over 5.4 kilometers, functioning as a central command and control hub for Hezbollah's "Badr" unit. It contained command posts, weapons storage, and living quarters, enabling militants to fortify and engage in prolonged combat.

Defense Minister Gallant stated that the IDF destroyed the tunnels, calling them a strong Hezbollah stronghold built with Iranian support to facilitate attacks on the Galilee and protect Nabatieh. He commended the soldiers for their bravery and professionalism under difficult conditions, noting that the operation was conducted under heavy secrecy. Gallant confirmed that Hezbollah militants defending the infrastructure were eliminated and the tunnels were neutralized and destroyed.

Gallant further explained that the operation fulfilled the directive to maneuver within Lebanon to eliminate raid threats and direct fire capabilities against northern Israeli communities, creating a security zone from the coast to the foothills of Mount Hermon. He described the Ali Taher tunnel network as the final piece in this operation, emphasizing the significant arsenal found within. The defense minister asserted that this action has created an unprecedented security buffer protecting northern settlements from raids and direct fire, while also enabling pressure on Hezbollah deeper within Lebanon. He concluded by stating readiness for continued operations against Hezbollah.
