Israel Soccer Defender Ori Blumenfeld Undergoes Successful Angioplasty
Ori Blumenfeld, a 26-year-old defender for the Israeli national soccer team and Sporting Kansas City, underwent a successful angioplasty procedure last week. He was hospitalized in Kansas City after feeling unwell and remains under observation. The procedure means Blumenfeld will miss the upcoming international window, during which Israel is scheduled to play four matches in the UEFA Nations League.
Blumenfeld's absence adds to that of teammates Itay Rotman and Stav Lemkin. They will be replaced by Doron Leidner, Raz Shlomo, Eliel Abada, and Eli Dasa, the latter currently without a club.
Blumenfeld joined Sporting Kansas City in May on a three-season contract with an option for two more, after parting ways with Hapoel Be'er Sheva. He has since made seven appearances for his new club, with his most recent being last Sunday's 5-3 loss to Dallas FC, where he played the full 90 minutes. Sporting Kansas City is currently last in the Western Conference standings with 15 points. Their next match is this Sunday against LAFC.
