Consumer Credit Spending Rises on Eve of Rosh Hashanah Despite Travel Surge
Consumer credit spending reached approximately NIS 460 million on the morning of Rosh Hashanah eve, between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, marking a 2.7% increase compared to the same period last year. These figures, released by Sheba, the company managing the national debit card payment system, indicate a rise in spending despite a higher number of Israelis traveling abroad this year.
The data may suggest an impact from this year's price increases. For comparison, two years ago, on Rosh Hashanah eve which fell on a Friday, spending during the same hours was NIS 423 million. In September 2023, before the outbreak of the Swords of Iron War, spending in these hours stood at NIS 378 million.
Sheba also reported that the peak minute for spending occurred at 10:56 AM, with transactions exceeding NIS 3.44 million and over 18,000 transactions processed within that single minute.
