Israeli Man Arrested Upon Return From Nine Years in Thai Prison

Eyal Bokel returned to Israel after serving approximately nine years in prison in Thailand, only to be immediately arrested on suspicion of threats and conspiracy to commit a crime. The police requested an extension of his detention, but the court ordered his release under restrictive conditions.

A police representative stated that investigators possess evidence linking Bokel to the alleged offenses and that two investigative actions remain to be completed. During the court hearing, Bokel's attorney, Segron, pressed the police representative for details regarding the nature of the threats, the target, and the timing, but the representative indicated that the investigative materials had been presented to the court.

Segron argued that his client endured nine years of harsh prison conditions in Thailand, isolated from the outside world, and that his family had long awaited his return. However, upon his arrival in Israel, he was taken into custody.
