Israeli Figure Skater, 17, Weds in Lavish Russian Ceremony
Gabriella Greenberg, a 17-year-old figure skater representing Israel in international competitions, recently married Yossef Boroda in Russia. Boroda is the son of Alexander Boroda, president of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Russia. The wedding garnered significant attention, with videos and photos shared on social media by guests, and a notable guest list.
Among the attendees were Russian rapper Timati, who performed one of his hits, and Russian singer Nikolai Baskov, who hosted the event. Russian media reported that a minister also spoke during the ceremony. Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, was also seen at the wedding, alongside prominent Russian figure skaters Daria Sadkova and Sofia Samodelkina.
Greenberg, born in Moscow on April 19, 2009, has represented Israel since 2022. Her personal best in international competition is 126.73 points, achieved at the Junior Grand Prix in the Czech Republic in 2024. She has competed in the Junior World Championships and the Junior Grand Prix series, with her best result being 17th place in Osaka in 2023. She also won a medal at the Israeli Championships in 2024 and the Bavaria Open in 2023.
Greenberg has previously commented on the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions, stating in a 2024 interview that "Sport is outside of politics. Why suspend athletes? Everyone should be on equal terms."
