Herzog, US Ambassador Commemorate 9/11 Victims in Jerusalem

Israeli President Isaac Herzog marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks with a special statement from the 9/11 Memorial in Jerusalem. In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, September 11, 2026, Herzog described the tragedy as a "horrifying spectacle of collapsing twin towers" that darkened the New York sky.

Standing at the memorial, located on the hills overlooking Jerusalem, Herzog bowed his head in remembrance of the thousands killed in New York, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. He also paid tribute to the courage of first responders and ordinary citizens who aided victims. Herzog emphasized that Israel, having experienced the threat of international terrorism firsthand, deeply understands its devastating impact.

"Here in Israel, we understand this deadly threat all too well," Herzog stated. He asserted that there is no justification for attacks on innocent people, regardless of nationality, and reaffirmed Israel's unwavering support for the United States as its "greatest ally and friend."

The previous day, the U.S. Embassy in Israel, in collaboration with Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) and JNF-USA, held an official ceremony at the Jerusalem memorial to commemorate the 25th anniversary. This memorial is unique outside the U.S. as it bears the names of all 9/11 victims and houses a fragment from the original World Trade Center towers.
