Israel Boosts Readiness Amid Fears of Escalation Before Holidays
Israel's defense establishment is significantly increasing its alert levels and altering operational methods across all fronts in anticipation of potential escalation, particularly from Iran, ahead of the upcoming holiday season. This heightened readiness follows the recent destruction of a major Hezbollah underground stronghold in southern Lebanon.
On Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) demolished over two kilometers of Hezbollah's underground infrastructure in the Al-Tahir ridge, using approximately 1,100 tons of explosives. This complex, built over 25 years with Iranian funding and design, served as the primary command center for Hezbollah's Badr unit and housed weapons, rockets, and equipment intended for raids on northern Israeli communities. Following the operation, IDF forces have withdrawn and are focusing on controlling vantage points to prevent the reconstruction of these facilities.
The operation in Lebanon is part of a broader strategic shift towards a more offensive defense posture across all sectors. In the Palestinian territories, the IDF maintains operational control in Gaza, conducting targeted eliminations of Hamas leadership, destroying weapons caches, and neutralizing new aerial threats. In the West Bank, forces are on high alert with dozens of battalions deployed, alongside an additional division ready for rapid deployment, to prevent infiltrations and attacks.
On the Iranian front, heightened vigilance is maintained due to concerns of provocations, with security forces possessing an updated list of targets for immediate retaliation. The Israeli Air Force has also implemented a new operational concept to ensure rapid and massive deployment of aircraft to any border emergency, providing an immediate and powerful response to any scenario.
