Israel has completed the destruction of a significant Hezbollah tunnel network in the Ali Taher mountain range in southern Lebanon, a facility that had been under construction for two decades with Iranian funding and guidance. The operation, finalized on Thursday, is viewed by Israel's security establishment as a severe blow to the terrorist organization and a direct message to Iran, which financed and directed the complex's development.
The timing of the operation is particularly sensitive, occurring shortly before the High Holidays. Effi Drori, who entered the tunnels after the operation, stated that Iranian-made weapons were found within, reinforcing the view that Hezbollah is an arm of the Iranian regime. Simultaneously, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a direct warning to Iran regarding provocative actions at a fortified site near the Natanz nuclear facility. Reports also indicate Iran is attempting to revive its ballistic missile production using existing components and underground facilities, establishing new underground assembly points to hinder potential attacks.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized the Iranian connection to the Ali Taher complex and reiterated Israel's commitment to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. While neither Hezbollah nor Iran have publicly responded in a way that significantly alters the game rules, the accumulation of events has created a highly sensitive period as Israel enters the High Holidays. Senior Israeli officials have reportedly conveyed to Tehran that any attack would lead to a severe war, not a limited response, with threats to destroy Iranian energy infrastructure rapidly.
