Thousands Attend Rabbi Chaim Pinto's 180th Memorial in Morocco

Over two thousand people gathered in Essaouira, Morocco, for the "Hilula" (memorial gathering) of Rabbi Chaim Pinto, marking 180 years since his passing. The event, led by Rabbi David Hanania Pinto, attracted attendees from Israel, Canada, the US, France, Argentina, and England, who came to pray at the rabbi's tomb.

The Moroccan government and security forces made extensive preparations for the large gathering, including special arrangements for aircraft landings and significant security presence. Large banners welcoming participants, featuring both Moroccan and Israeli flags, were displayed. The area around the tomb was closed to the public for several days, with police monitoring the site 24/7.

A large tent was erected to host meals, including Shabbat and the main Hilula feast. A portrait of King Mohammed VI was prominently displayed. During the event, a new Torah scroll was dedicated, with Rabbi David Hanania Pinto inscribing the final letters. He also led prayers for the Moroccan king.

Senior Moroccan government officials and a personal envoy of King Mohammed VI attended the Hilula feast, sitting at the head table. The gathering included prayer services, communal meals, and singing, with Rabbi David Hanania Pinto delivering words of Torah and inspiration. The event culminated with prayers at the tomb, where Rabbi Pinto blessed the attendees and expressed hope for the well-being of all of Israel.

On Sunday morning, attendees began their journeys home, carrying with them the spiritual experience of the Hilula, in anticipation of Rosh Hashanah.
