Jewish Music Project Revives Classic Songs with Modern Arrangements

Singers Reuven Gelber and Elhanan Goodman have launched a new musical project titled 'Moments for the Soul' ('Regaim LaNeshamah'), aiming to breathe new life into beloved classics of Jewish music. The project's first single, 'The Soul is Yours' ('HaNeshamah Lach'), has been released, signaling the upcoming arrival of seven additional tracks.

The initiative stems from a desire to present familiar and cherished songs in a fresh, contemporary style. The single 'The Soul is Yours,' originally performed by Yidel Werdyger and Mordechai Ben David, features a new rendition by Gelber and Goodman, complemented by an elaborate musical arrangement from Eliya Netanali. Netanali's production reimagines the original melody by Rabbi Binyamin Hershkowitz, infusing it with rich sonic elements while preserving the song's core spirit and incorporating modern musical touches appealing to a younger audience.

The selection of 'The Soul is Yours' as the inaugural track is deliberate, given its status as a classic with a profound message about the soul's connection to the Creator. Gelber and Goodman deliver the lyrics in a way that resonates emotionally, maintaining the song's spiritual depth. This project joins a recent wave of new musical releases, including singles from Ishay Ribo, Zusha, Yaakov Abuchatzira, Kobi Brumer, and Yeshivat Or Hachaim, many timed for the High Holidays.

Unlike projects focused on entirely new compositions, 'Moments for the Soul' revitalizes existing songs that have resonated across generations. The goal is to introduce younger listeners to these classics through a musical language they understand, while offering older generations a refreshing experience of familiar favorites. The single is now available on all digital platforms, with anticipation high for the subsequent releases, each promising a renewed take on another Jewish music classic.
