Switzerland Releases Nazi War Criminal Josef Mengele Documents

Switzerland's intelligence service released 200 documents on Thursday concerning Nazi war criminal Josef Mengele, the SS physician at Auschwitz known as the "Angel of Death" for his horrific experiments on Jewish prisoners. The released files suggest that Mengele may have entered Switzerland after escaping Germany, or at least planned to do so under a false identity. The documents were transferred to local police.

Mengele evaded capture after World War II and fled to South America, where he died in 1979. The release of these documents comes amid broader concerns about the rise of the far-right in Germany, with warnings issued to Holocaust remembrance sites. Additionally, Italy has begun legislating to return art looted during the Holocaust.
