Former Channel 12 Reporter Slams Haredi Leadership Over Poverty

Zvi Elimelech Zilberschlag, a former reporter for Israel's Channel 12 News and a social media influencer, has sharply criticized the leaders of Israel's Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) parties. Speaking on the "Daniel Dushy" podcast, Zilberschlag argued that the Haredi community faces severe economic and social hardship, which he attributes to the community's leadership.

He expressed concern that without rescuing Haredi individuals from what he termed the "tunnels of Haredi cronyism," the state of Israel has no future. Zilberschlag lamented that his Haredi nephews, whom he described as "magic children," have no prospect of living with dignity, with their highest aspiration being shelf-stocking jobs. He highlighted a significant socio-economic gap between the secular and Haredi populations, questioning why Haredi children are denied opportunities and why the community receives more government funding while his nephews become poorer.

"Starve my nephews to save their lives," Zilberschlag pleaded, suggesting that without such drastic measures, they will remain "hostages" to the current system. He recounted instances of discrimination faced by Haredi individuals in public spaces, contrasting their experiences with those of secular Israelis.

Zilberschlag also questioned the authority of Haredi politicians like Aryeh Deri and Moshe Gafni, suggesting they are not qualified to instruct their communities on how to vote. He implied that only a religious leader, a rabbi, could legitimately issue such directives, raising concerns about who appoints these rabbis and their motivations.
