Israel Rescues 300 Dogs From Horrific Puppy Mill

Israeli authorities have rescued approximately 300 purebred dogs from a clandestine puppy mill operating in the Ra'anana area. The operation, conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture in conjunction with law enforcement, uncovered severe animal neglect and unsanitary conditions. Many of the dogs were found with open sores, covered in dirt and feces, with some in critical condition due to the owners' negligence.

The facility, described as a commercial breeding operation focused on profit, housed various breeds including poodles, Pomeranians, Labradoodles, French bulldogs, dachshunds, Shih Tzus, and golden retrievers. The animals were kept in cramped, poorly ventilated spaces lacking adequate cooling. Rescuers documented distressing scenes, including a puppy trapped in a water bowl and others lying in urine-soaked bedding. Many suffered from eye infections, dental problems, and matted, filthy fur.

Investigations revealed the puppy mill lacked necessary licenses, and most dogs were without microchips or rabies vaccinations. Expired vaccines were found stored in a refrigerator, and a proper veterinary treatment room was absent. The raid also involved veterinary services from the Gush Dan region and the Tax Authority, as investigators suspect the owner of income concealment, illicit cash transactions, and severe accounting violations, in addition to animal cruelty.

All rescued dogs have been transferred to a secure Ministry of Agriculture shelter for veterinary examination and care. Following rehabilitation, authorities plan to rehome the animals. A criminal case has been opened against the owner. Moshe Ahrak, head of the ministry's Central Unit for Control and Investigations, condemned the operation as a cynical "production line" that prioritized profit over animal welfare.
