Ariel Idan, the southern correspondent for Channel 14, went to help rescue a kitten that had been trapped for hours on the roof of a commercial center in Netivot on Wednesday. He left his other work to respond to the report, saying he did not want to ignore the animal's cries for help.
What began as a rescue effort quickly turned into an awkward scene for bystanders. Idan climbed a tall tree while holding a box intended for the kitten, but then found himself unable to get down. People below shouted encouragement, including, “Hold on!”, and Idan replied from the branches, “I’m already with you!”
Fire and rescue crews arrived with a large ladder to bring both the reporter and the kitten back down safely. Speaking to C14, Idan said the kitten had been stuck on the roof in Netivot for hours and he had stopped by because he was nearby. “I climbed up to take him down and got stuck there myself, so Fire and Rescue came to rescue me too,” he said.
