Law Firms Raise $57,000 for Northern Israel Disaster Relief Meals
Ten law firms participated in a basketball tournament in Tel Aviv, successfully raising NIS 172,000 (approximately $57,000) to fund hot meals for residents of northern Israel who are undergoing rehabilitation.
The tournament, now in its fifth year and initiated by DLA Piper Israel, took place just days before the Jewish New Year. The funds will be directed to the "Latet Israel" organization's hot meal program. Latet Israel collects prepared meals from IDF bases, hotels, and catering services, distributing them to charities that provide food to needy individuals across the country.
Since the tournament's inception five years ago, it has raised over NIS 670,000 (more than $220,000). "The North bore an especially heavy burden, and long after the media moved on to other topics, families in the region continue to rebuild their lives. A daily hot meal is one of the most tangible ways we can support these families," stated Jeremy Lustman, Managing Partner of DLA Piper Israel.
Participating firms included Amit Pollak Matalon, Tadmor Levy, Fischer, Porat & Vilenski Mizrahi Kenani, Goldfarb Gross Seligman, Gornitzky, Herzog Fox Neeman, Meitar, S. Horowitz, and Shibolet. Meitar won the tournament, defeating Tadmor Levy in the finals, with Adv. Orpez Azulai from Meitar named the Most Valuable Player.
Gidi Kroch, CEO of Latet Israel, emphasized the importance of food rescue, calling it a "national infrastructure." He noted that every shekel raised translates into a nutritious meal for a family in the North, preventing good, edible food from being wasted. Latet Israel, founded in 2003, reportedly provides food to approximately 470,000 needy individuals weekly through over 360 charities, having rescued over 2.24 million cooked meals and 32 million fruits and vegetables in 2025.
