Electra Real Estate Stock Plummets Amid Market Challenges
Electra Real Estate, a company managing real estate funds in the United States, is experiencing a significant stock decline. The company's shares have fallen nearly 3% today, continuing a downward trend that began in March and intensified in July following a failed fundraising attempt. The stock has dropped over 50% in the past year.
Electra Real Estate operates as a general partner in U.S. real estate funds, earning revenue from management and performance fees. Its profitability is closely tied to the value and sale prices of its properties. While the company achieved record profits of $181 million in 2022, a sharp interest rate hike in the U.S. during 2023 led to a decrease in property values and a company loss of approximately $63 million for the year. Electra Real Estate has struggled to return to profitability since then.
Despite a partial recovery in early 2024, the stock resumed its decline in March. In July, an attempt to privately issue shares and options to institutional investors was abruptly canceled after the stock dropped 12% in a single day due to market conditions. Shortly thereafter, the company completed a private capital raise at 35 shekels per share, a discount of about 18-20% from the pre-announcement price. This move was perceived by the market as diluting existing shareholders' stakes, and the stock now trades at around 21 shekels.
