Rabbi Zilberstein Addresses Children on Rosh Hashanah Seating Dilemma

Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein, a prominent rabbinic authority, recently addressed hundreds of young students at the 'Ohel Torah' Talmud Torah in Ramat Elchanan. The event, held on the last Shabbat of the Hebrew year 5786, focused on the importance of Torah study and its role in protecting the Jewish people.

Rabbi Zilberstein, who had just attended a circumcision ceremony for his great-grandson, spoke to the children dressed in Shabbat attire and holding flags bearing his image. He praised their diligence in their studies, with the school's principal, Rabbi Yisrael Wolf, presenting the students and conducting a brief examination.

"The children of Israel who have no sin and study Torah are what stops them," Rabbi Zilberstein declared, referring to hostile nations like Iran. He emphasized that while these nations aim to destroy Jews, the purity and dedication of Torah-observing children serve as a shield. "You stop the nations of the world from being able to kill us," he told the students.

He then presented a moral dilemma for the upcoming Rosh Hashanah holiday: what should a child do if an elderly person takes their pre-paid seat in the synagogue? Rabbi Zilberstein advised the children to ask ten people to each stand for a short period, allowing the child to sit for most of the service while still showing respect to the elder. He concluded by reiterating that their Torah study and purity are their greatest protection, urging them to continue learning with enthusiasm, as they are the ones who will save the Jewish people.
