Tel Aviv Man Arrested for Burglary, Extortion of Brazilian Tourist

Police in Tel Aviv have arrested a 35-year-old resident of the Florentin neighborhood on suspicion of breaking into a Brazilian tourist's apartment, stealing valuables, and then demanding ransom for their return. The incident began when the tourist reported her apartment had been burglarized and her belongings stolen.

Investigators believe the suspect subsequently contacted the victim, offering to return her property in exchange for 10,000 shekels. Detectives arranged a sting operation, meeting the suspect on Dizengoff Street. During the planned exchange, officers apprehended the suspect, who arrived on a motorcycle.

A search of the suspect's motorcycle revealed a luxury watch, valued at approximately 40,000 shekels, believed to have been stolen from the tourist's apartment, along with a knife. A subsequent search of the suspect's apartment in Florentin uncovered the victim's passport, bags, and jewelry, also valued in the tens of thousands of shekels.

The suspect was taken into custody for questioning at the Tel Aviv North station and is scheduled to appear in court for a remand extension hearing. The police released the information on Thursday morning.
