Residents of Israel who become unemployed may be eligible for unemployment benefits from Bituah Leumi (National Insurance Institute), with potential payouts reaching up to 13,769 shekels for 25 working days. The benefit amount is calculated based on previous earnings, age, and other factors, with a maximum daily rate of 550.76 shekels for the first 125 days of unemployment. Eligibility requires registration with the Employment Service immediately after job loss, and benefits are generally for individuals aged 20 to 67 who have worked at least 12 of the last 18 months. The reason for job termination significantly impacts when payments begin. Those who quit voluntarily may face a 90-day waiting period unless they had a recognized valid reason, while individuals dismissed or sent on unpaid leave by their employer may qualify sooner. Refusing suitable job offers or training from the Employment Service can lead to benefit suspension and deductions. Bituah Leumi advises prompt application with necessary documents, including pay slips and employer confirmation of termination reason and date. Previously, the Tax Authority announced payments of up to 3,000 shekels.
