Eight Muslim Nations Laud UK Ban on Israeli Settlement Goods
Foreign ministers from the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia have welcomed the United Kingdom's decision to ban imports from Israeli settlements. In a joint statement, the ministers expressed hope that London's move would encourage other countries to adopt similar measures and hold accountable entities and individuals involved in settlement activities, which they described as a violation of international law.
The signatory nations also applauded the intention of 11 other states to impose trade restrictions on settlements. The statement referenced UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and the International Court of Justice's July 2024 advisory opinion, reiterating calls for Israel to reverse steps aimed at expanding settlements.
The ministers also affirmed that the Gaza Strip is part of the Palestinian territories. They urged the full implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end the conflict in Gaza and reaffirmed support for an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
