Saudi-US-Lebanon Talks Aim to De-escalate, Lebanese Army Deploys in Nabatieh

Saudi, American, and Lebanese diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions along the Israeli-Lebanese border, with sources suggesting these talks have already slowed the pace of escalation. Concurrently, the Lebanese army has deployed in Nabatieh, a city in southern Lebanon, in an effort to prevent it from becoming a focal point of destruction.

American sources told Lebanese outlet Al-Jadeed that the trilateral diplomatic engagement has led to a reduction in escalation over the past 24 hours. These efforts, involving meetings in both Saudi Arabia and the US, aim to contain the situation and prevent further deterioration. The Saudi involvement reportedly focuses on supporting Lebanon's demands and promoting sustainable solutions to stabilize the region and reduce tension.

The deployment of the Lebanese army in Nabatieh, reportedly decided by President Aoun and Army Commander General Rudolf Heikal, is intended to spare the city the fate of other devastated areas in southern Lebanon. Reinforcements are expected to arrive, bolstering state presence and protection in the region.

Despite the appearance of stalled negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, diplomatic sources indicate significant "under the table" activity. Lebanese diplomatic sources told Al-Diyar newspaper that progress has been made in recent contacts, particularly following a visit by the US Ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issah, to Israel for a meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu. These ongoing discussions involve various political, diplomatic, and security levels, with mediators facilitating communication and exploring new formulas to resolve disputes before they are formally presented for negotiation.
