Red Cross Tours Israeli Military Prison Facility Amid Visit Renewal Efforts

A delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) conducted a technical meeting, assessment, and tour of an Israeli military detention facility. During this visit, the team did not meet with or have direct contact with any detainees. The activity involved constructive discussions with the facility's authorities and a tour of certain areas.

This visit is part of ongoing efforts by the ICRC to resume its regular visits to detainees held in Israeli detention facilities. The organization aims to re-establish direct contact with prisoners as part of its mandate.

Julien Laronze, head of the ICRC delegation in Israel and the occupied territories, described the meeting as a positive step towards the resumption of proper visits to detainees. He stated that the organization will continue its dialogue with the relevant Israeli authorities to facilitate the renewal of these visits.
