New Song "Libi Ere" Blends Biblical Text with Chasidic Melody

The story · English

Israeli singers Baruch Tzuri Nokid and Sinai Tor have released a new musical collaboration titled "Libi Ere" (My Heart is Awake). The song is based on verses from the Song of Songs, "I sleep but my heart is awake, hark, my beloved knocks, open to me," and features a melody composed by the late Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz.

Nokid shared that the song has been with him for many years, maturing until it was ready for performance. He expressed his hope that the song "will touch and open hearts." He dedicated the song to his wife, as well as to "all those who are asleep yet whose hearts are awake to the knocking, and those who yearn, who so await the longed-for meeting of the beloved and the bride, in particular and in general." He concluded with a prayer, "May our eyes see and our hearts rejoice."

Zlil Tor is credited with the musical arrangement and production, also playing electric guitar and keyboards, and handling the programming. Other musicians involved include Shmaya Zerbib on classical guitar and Adama Tor on cello. Nokid, Sinai Tor, and Zlil Tor performed the backing vocals. The mixing was done by Daniel Moshe, and the mastering by Stav Perdo.
