Father Changes Story on Toddler's Cocaine Exposure, Claims Son Ingested ADHD Medication
The father of a 22-month-old toddler found with cocaine residue in his system has altered his account of the incident. Initially, the father claimed his son had ingested cocaine, but he has since stated that the child swallowed "Attent" pills, a medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which were kept at their home by prescription. He added that he "tried to make him vomit."
The toddler was hospitalized at Laniado Hospital in Netanya after feeling unwell. Medical tests revealed cocaine traces in his blood. The father, a software company owner in his 30s residing in Even Yehuda, was initially detained on suspicion of drug use, supplying drugs to a minor, and neglect of a helpless person.
The child's mother brought him to the hospital and, during questioning, implicated the father, telling investigators, "He uses drugs." Police reportedly believe the father has changed his story regarding the source of the drug.
A court ruled that there was insufficient evidence at this stage to suggest the drug was intentionally administered to the toddler. The father was ordered released to house arrest and to stay away from his son. However, his release was temporarily halted pending a review of an appeal filed by the police.
