A 21-year-old Israeli man was arrested in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, on suspicion of attempted murder after a late-night fight outside a nightclub left three people stabbed: a young Cypriot man and two security guards. A local court extended his detention by eight days while police continue investigating what led to the attack.
According to Cyprus police, the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. The suspect was reportedly with another Israeli, age 22, when an argument broke out with the Cypriot outside the club. During the fight, the 21-year-old allegedly pulled a knife and injured the Cypriot and both guards.
One of the guards suffered a stab wound to the abdomen, was taken to hospital, underwent surgery, and is no longer in immediate danger, though he remains in serious condition. The second guard was wounded in the leg, and the Cypriot was described as less seriously hurt. Police said a knife was found at the scene and taken for forensic testing.
The second Israeli was also injured in the incident and arrested on suspicion of involvement. Police said that when officers arrived, the main suspect cursed at them, leading to additional suspicions of insulting a public servant, disorderly conduct, and causing a disturbance. Investigators are still collecting evidence and examining the circumstances of the violent clash.
