A 21-year-old Israeli man was arrested in Cyprus on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing three people during a violent fight outside a nightclub in Ayia Napa. The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. on Luka Luka Street, after an argument between two Israelis and a young Cypriot escalated, according to police in Famagusta district.
Two security guards from a nearby club intervened to separate the sides, and investigators say the 21-year-old then pulled a knife and stabbed all three. The 25-year-old guard was stabbed in the stomach, underwent emergency surgery and is said to be in serious but stable condition. A second guard, 41, was stabbed in the leg, and the Cypriot youth was also injured.
A second Israeli, 22 and identified as the suspect's friend, was hurt in the head and face during the brawl and was also arrested on suspicion of involvement. Police recovered a knife at the scene and sent it for evidence.
When officers arrived, the main suspect allegedly cursed at them, leading to additional charges of disorderly conduct and insulting public servants. The Paralimni court extended his detention by eight days, and the investigation is ongoing. Cypriot authorities have not yet disclosed a motive. Ayia Napa, a popular resort town known for nightlife, has also seen periodic violence involving tourists.
