Experts Emphasize Human Element in Startup Scaling Amidst AI Advancements
A panel discussion at the ScaleUp House conference, co-hosted by Calcalist and Showcase IL with Naomitech, highlighted that while AI is transformative, successful scaling of startups ultimately relies on human vision and expertise. Oded Har-Even, co-managing partner at Sullivan & Worcester, stated that scaling is achieved through people with a shared vision, cautioning against shortcuts and emphasizing the need for experienced mentors.
Panelists discussed the challenges faced by tech companies transitioning from startup to global scale. Dikla Reznik-Erez of Phoenix ESOP noted that market uncertainty can foster flexibility and creativity, stressing the importance of human expertise in navigating complex equity, tax, and IPO processes, even with advanced technology. Sagi Tsafrir from Google Israel praised the Israeli ecosystem for its supportive network, enabling entrepreneurs to seek advice and build connections crucial for global expansion.
Har-Even further elaborated that global reach requires establishing a physical presence and serious partnerships, not just a strong product. He argued that a global deployment plan is as vital as product development, as significant investment in a product alone doesn't guarantee success without a strategy for international growth. Nir Anbar of Naomitech advised CEOs to focus on relevant KPIs, including sales growth, customer revenue expansion, and cash efficiency, and to integrate AI management metrics into their dashboards.
Yishai Ram of Sela pointed out that while AI is a current focus, companies must ensure their products remain relevant in an evolving technological landscape, integrating AI thoughtfully and building appropriate teams. The panelists concluded that successful scaling requires forward-thinking business and technological planning, defining clear scaling goals, and prioritizing human expertise, trust, and experience over solely relying on technology or shortcuts.
