Fire Erupts in Kiryat Ono Apartment Building, Residents Evacuated

A fire broke out on a recent afternoon in a seven-story residential building on Ha'Dror Street in Kiryat Ono, a city in central Israel. The building, home to 28 families and currently undergoing renovations, saw emergency services, including firefighters, police, and municipal security, respond swiftly. The mayor, Michal Roshainshtein, arrived at the scene to oversee the response and aid for residents.

Firefighters conducted searches of apartments and common areas to ensure no one remained inside and worked to ventilate smoke that had accumulated in the stairwell. Approximately 30 residents were evacuated and gathered in a nearby public garden. The municipal welfare department provided support, assessing immediate needs and arranging temporary accommodation for those unable to return to their homes.

While most residents are reportedly calm and receiving assistance, access to six apartments on the southern facade, from the first to third floors, remains restricted. Families in these units are being individually assisted by the welfare department in finding alternative lodging, potentially with relatives. The remaining residents await full safety assessments before being allowed back into their apartments.

A municipal building inspector is on-site to evaluate the building's structural integrity, with a comprehensive engineering inspection planned for later that evening due to concerns about facade cladding potentially detaching. Mayor Roshainshtein emphasized the coordinated efforts of all emergency and municipal teams, prioritizing resident safety and a full assessment of the situation. She pledged continued support for affected families until a safe return to their homes is possible.
